Performance Tennis

If players are identified as potential competition players, they are given the opportunity to join the squad programme. This programme then runs on two levels, squad and performance squad. Generally squad aims are to train players to compete within their peer group and progress onto tournaments and competitions. The stronger players move into our fast track or performance level. Once at this level far more is expected of the players and parents in terms of commitment and this area of our programme should not be taken lightly. Players are expected to play a greater number of hours often up to 20 per week but this will depend on their individual goals. We try to encourage players to use the LTA Long Term Player Development Guidelines which clearly state the number of hour required in the various areas of performance for a player to reach their true potential

With performance players we encourage a heavier tournament programme and players are coached with excellence in mind. With this, attitudes are a key factor and the ability to work hard and devote more time to tennis than other activities is a critical factor in achieving the performance goals set. The coaches of these players expect nothing less than total commitment.

Currently our squad programme has up to 80 LTA rated players, junior teams and a large number coming through from the Development and Mini Tennis Programme.
